Woolf, Virginia ~ Roger Fry
The Hogarth Press, London : 1940
The First UK printing published by The Hogarth Press, London in 1940. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with just a little lightening of the spine but far less than usually encountered. A slither of fading to the extreme upper spine tip reproducing the slither of loss to the wrapper. The gilt titling remains very bright. Some light toning to the text-block and outer page edges due to the quality of paper stock used. Light offsetting to the blank end-papers. Free from inscriptions. The fragile WRAPPER is in Very Good++ or better condition. It is lightly dust marked to the rear panel with a few minor markings to the spine panel. A small amount of loss to the spine head. A few nicks and light creasing to the edges with a small area of tape reinforcement to the verso of the front panel edge. There is only a hint of toning to the spine. The wrapper presents as a very sharp example in the removable Brodart archival cover, with the design reproducing Vanessa Bell's portrait of Fry. Only 2,530 copies were printed (Kirkpatrick A25). With a self-portrait frontispiece, seventeen photographs and reproductions and a brief foreword in the form of a letter from Margery Fry to Virginia Woolf. An increasingly elusive title to find in collectible condition.
