The First UK Printing published by Cassell and Co in 1916. The BOOK is in Very Good++ or better condition. The correct first issue with blind-stamped olive green boards and gilt titling to the spine. The titling has dulled to the spine. Mild offsetting to the end papers with light spotting to the prelims and to the page edges in a few places. Text block lightly toned and spotted. Free from inscriptions, erasures and markings. Blind-stamp 'Presentation Copy" to the title page. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ or better condition. It is the correct first issue with no price sticker to the spine. Light markings and edge-wear in places. Mild rubbing and creasing to the upper spine with a small closed tear not affecting the lettering. The wrapper presents very well in the removable Brodart archival cover. First Printings are virtually never seen in the correct first issue wrapper. The novel enjoyed immense popularity during World War One with its vivid portrayal of life on the home front.
