Townend, Jack ~ A Story About Ducks : First Issue With The Original Wrapper
Faber and Faber : 1945
The First UK printing published by Faber and Faber in 1945. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with just a little splaying of the upper board. Free from inscriptions and erasures. The scarce WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good+ condition. A little chip to the upper spine area with a little rubbing at the corners. A closed tear with related creasing to the lower rear edge. A few minor small closed tears to the edges. The wonderful wrapper artwork looks striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. The book was published lithographically at the Baynard Press in London, during a period of ink and paper rationing. The resultant illustrations are very striking. Jack Townend studied at the Slade School of Art – under the direction of Randolph Schwabe. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 1946. Jack Townend has recently had the recognition he deserves with the The 'V and A' museum recently reprinting many of his titles. A very scarce wartime production title. Collectible.
