Townend, Jack ~ A Railway ABC : First Issue
Faber and Faber, London : 1942
The First UK printing published by Faber and Faber in 1942. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Some very light age related markings to the covers. The binding remains tight. Only some very slight creasing internally - barely discernible. Free from inscriptions and erasures. Lacking the wrapper. Protected in a loose archival Mylar covering. The book was published lithographically at the Baynard Press in London, during a period of ink and paper rationing. The resultant illustrations are very striking. Jack Townend studied at the Slade School of Art under the direction of Randolph Schwabe. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 1946. Jack Townend has recently had the recognition he deserves with the The 'V and A museum' recently reprinting many of his titles. A very scarce wartime production title, more-so in such collectible condition.
