Patrick Moore presented the BBC television series The Sky at Night from its initiation in April 1957 until his death in 2012, missing just one episode during that time due to illness. He therefore became a household name in the field of popular astronomy, but was also responsible for over 100 children’s science fiction novels, mostly written at the beginning of his career, and starting with the short Grenfell and Wright series, which began in 1952. Wanderer in Space was written almost ten years later, when Moore was somewhat of a seasoned writer within the genre. In this example, the protagonists Rex Redmayne and Robin North set off to photograph ‘Percy’ - a mysterious object approaching from outer space.
