8vo., red publisher’s boards, lettered in black to backstrip with publisher’s device to foot; in the exceptionally bright pictorial dust wrapper designed by ‘Hardy’ (9s 6d net); THE BOOK a near-fine copy, mild bruising to spine tips and lightly spotted to the outer edges, but else clean and bright, in the clean and vibrant DUST WRAPPER which is perhaps mildly toned, with minimal creasing along folds, and some rubbing to edges; most so to spine tips; unusual in such fresh condition. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. First edition. A near-fine copy of this science fiction work by the popular astronomer Patrick Moore, with the plot immediately following on from a previous work in the series, Wanderer in Space. In Wanderer in Space, Moore developed the story of the international research station based on the moon, being attacked by an unknown entity from space, heralding the wake of nuclear war on planet earth. In this sequel, the same two protagonists once again have to solve a new mystery by embarking on a mission - in a rocket named Mabel - over the ‘Dream Sea’. Based upon his own authentic scientific knowledge, Moore develops a story with events “so fraught with excitement and realism that to compare them with either dreams or nightmares is to underestimate the compelling style and tense atmosphere of this story”. (Dust wrapper). Along with his long and illustrious career in Astronomy, Moore was a lover of all things science fiction, and penned numerous children’s books on the subject during his lifetime. He passed away in 2012 at the age of 89, leaving a long-lasting legacy behind him.
