The First UK printing published by Macmillan, London in 1979. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Free from inscriptions and erasures. Mild pushing at the spine ends. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ or better condition with only very slight fading of the yellow colouring. Mild edge wear with a few nicks and rubbing to the front flap fold in places. Small closed tear to the front lower edge. The wrapper is protected in a loose Mylar archival cover. The book has been signed by the author (without dedication) and dated to the title page. British photographer Don McCullin, one of the best photojournalists of his generation, went home in the hopes discovering who he was and where he came from. This volume of images of Britain and the English people was the result. Profusely illustrated with full page B/W Photographs throughout and a biographical essay by Don McCullin. His career, which began in 1959, has specialised in examining the underside of society, and his photographs have depicted the unemployed, downtrodden and the impoverished.
