Carnegie Medal Winner sticker to the front panel. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. First UK edition, inscribed by the author in blue biro to the title page: "Best wishes Sheila, Margaret Mahy, 1986". A children's fantasy novel by New Zealand writer Margaret Mahy, which follows an eight year old boy as he discovers he is one in a long line of family members who are endowed with supernatural powers. For him, this manifests as a series of images and messages from beyond the grave. The book won the annual Carnegie Medal in the year of publication. In 1984, Mahy won the award again for 'The Changeover'.
