Forster, Margaret ~ Georgy Girl
Secker and Warburg, London : 1965
The First UK printing published by Secker and Warburg in 1965. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with just a little dustiness to the upper text-block and one small spot to the lower text-block. Free from inscriptions and erasures. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good+ condition. A little loss at the upper spine and upper rear corner. Closed tears with a little associated creasing to the rear spine fold and the rear upper edge both have some archival tape reinforcement to the verso. A little toning to the edges. Some light age related markings to the laminate in places. There is none of the usual fading to the orange colouring to the front panel with the the balloon and author's name remaining uniformly orange. Some fading of the orange colouring in the titling to the spine. The Mary Driscoll wrapper artwork remains very striking in the removable brodart archival cover. A much better than usually encountered wrapper which is very prone to laminate damage and fading. The basis for the film 'Georgy Girl' which was directed by Silvio Narizzano and starred Lynn Redgrave (as Georgy), Charlotte Rampling, Alan Bates, and James Mason. The film also featured the well-known title song, 'Georgy Girl' which was performed by 'The Seekers'. The film was nominated for both the 'Academy Awards' and the 'Golden Globe Awards'. Scarce.
