The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. First UK edition, first printing. This copy comes together with a Samuel French Acting edition of the play, published in 1947. The script formerly in the possession of the M-i-S dramatic society. Also included is a Wyndham Theatre programme from the London production, priced 6d., in which Nora Swinburne starred in the role of Diana Wentworth, and Clive Brook played the role of Michael Wentworth. Du Maurier's second play after the adaptation of 'Rebecca' (1940), with the present example first performed on stage at the Manchester Opera House in the Autumn of 1944. Later, it transferred to London, opening at Wyndham's Theatre on 10th January 1945. The play became a West End hit, completing 617 performances in total. Its latest iteration was in 2007, where it was revived by Caroline Smith at the Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond, starring Karen Ascoe, Mark Tandy and Michael Lumsden in the principal roles. It was also turned into a 1946 film starring Michael Redgrave and Valerie Hobson.
