Carter, Angela ~ Nights At The Circus : Inscribed And Signed By The Author Pre-publication To Fellow Author Clive Sinclair
Chatto and Windus / The Hogarth Press : 1984
The First UK printing published by Chatto and Windus / The Hogarth Press in 1984. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with just a little bumping to the lower corners and some light toning to the text-block. The WRAPPER is complete and is in near Fine condition with no fading of the spine colouring. The Barbara Kaiser wrapper artwork design looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. The book has been Inscribed and signed by Angela Carter to the title Page; 'For Clive, all the best!, Angela'. The recipient was fellow author Clive Sinclair who in 1983 had been chosen as one of 'Granta’s Best of Young British Novelists' alongside Kazuo Ishiguro, Ian McEwan and Graham Swift. Accompanied by a loosely inserted Publisher's compliments slip announcing from Carmen Callil, the publication date of this title. She has warmly and simply signed this slip 'love'. Carmen Callil was at that time, the managing director of 'Chatto & Windus' and 'The Hogarth Press' where she remained until 1994. Prior to this, she had been extremely influential in setting up 'The Virago Press' in the late 70s. A wonderful association copy signed by the author prior to publication. An extremely scarce title with such attributes.
