A First UK Printing published by Alan Ross in 1967. The BOOK is in near FINE condition with some minor bumping to the spine ends. A little toning to the text block and some minor offsetting to the edges of the blue end papers. The WRAPPER is complete and is in near FINE condition. There is minimal edge wear with a hint of rubbing at the top of the spine and the lower front spine fold. There is a lengthy hand written and Signed inscription by J.L.CARR on the front end paper: 'The original title was A Game of Cricket because it was meant to be a serious novel of a contest of wills between two men, using cricket as the theme (as one could have used money,ambition or anything else). Thus it is a very different story to Hugh de Selincourt's 'Cricket Match'.' The Author's second novel and scarce with such attributes. J.L.Carr signed titles are increasingly rare.
