The First UK printing published by T. Fisher Unwin, London in 1914. The BOOK is in Very Good+ condition. Slightly cocked with mild pushing and fading at the spine ends. Some vertical creasing to the spine. Gilt tiling and decoration to the spine with the title and decoration blind-stamped to the front panel. Some mild ink stains to the lower rear panel. Light toning to the text-block. Some professional reinforcement tape to the front and rear hinges. The binding remains tight. Free from inscriptions. Some light toning to the half-title. The extremely scarce WRAPPER is in exceptional near Fine condition. Some light creasing and age related markings in places. A hint of fading to the spine. The striking wrapper artwork is by the Royal Academy artist Maurice Greiffenhagen. Greiffenhagen illustrated books for Edgar Wallace and Rider Haggard et al. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. An extremely scarce title from the author of 'Mapp and Lucia' et al. , more-so with an unrestored wrapper intact.
