A comprehensive and extensively-researched account of the battle for Stalingrad, by one of the UK's best selling historians. Beevor studied military history under John Keegan at Sandhurst, and served in the Army for five years before leaving to devote himself to a life of writing. Stalingrad was his fifth published work of non-fiction, beginning with the German invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941, and ending with the defeat and surrender of the Germans in February 1943. This title won the first 'Samuel Johnson Prize', the 'Wolfson Prize for History' and the 'Hawthornden Prize for Literature' in 1999.
