The First UK printing published by Williams & Norgate, Ltd., London in 1924. The BOOK is in Very Good+ condition. Mild pushing and rubbing to the spine ends and edges. The gilt titling to the spine and front cover is dulled. Some light toning and spotting to the text-block, prelims and page edges. Some offsetting to the end papers. The binding remains tight. Appendix C : 'The tenets of the C.B.C.' (pp. 221–6) has been neatly removed at the gutter. The fragile paper WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good condition. Some loss at the spine ends and edges - see images. A hint of toning to the spine. A few small closed tears at the upper spine end folds. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. The book has been inscribed and signed by Marie Stopes to the front blank end paper: 'To Mrs Brewster, with kind regards, from Marie C. Stopes'. Dr Marie Stopes (1880–1958), though best known today for her contributions to palaeontology, her pioneering work on birth control, and her manual 'Married Love', was also a prolific writer of novels, poems and fairy stories. Aylmer Maude was a famous biographer and life-long friend of Stopes. A very scarce title and at the time of listing the only available copy on the market.
